Beyond Kristallnacht: Lessons
for Today is a
series of community events being
held from November 7-9, 2008,
commemorating the 70th
anniversary of Kristallnacht.
These events will promote the
lessons learned from
Kristallnacht and the Holocaust,
to include the importance of
tolerance, human rights,
justice, diversity and the power
of the human spirit.
**All events
are open to the general
public at no charge.
**Teachers may
attend one or all events for
CPDU's for one price of $15

Events
1. On Friday, November 7,
2008, 7:30 pm at Temple
Emanuel, 1115 Mississippi
Avenue, Davenport, Iowa,
52803, there will be a
service and guest speaker
presentation. Victoria
Barnett from the US
Holocaust Museum will speak
on Bystanders to
Genocide.
2. On Saturday, November 8,
2008, Victoria Barnett from
the US Holocaust Museum will
speak on
Bystanders to Genocide
at the Tri-City Jewish
Center, 2715 30th Street,
Rock Island, Illinois,
61201. Services will run
from 9:30 am - 12 noon.
Mrs. Barnett will speak
approximately at 11:00 am.
3. On Saturday, November 8,
2008, at the Figge Art
Museum, 225 W. 2nd Street,
Davenport, Iowa, 52801, from
6:00 pm- 9:00 pm:
a. From 6:00 pm-7:00 pm,
there will be an unveiling
of the 1992 portfolio of 10
limited-edition prints by
Erwin Eisch, entitled
Kristallnacht:
The Night of the Crystal
Death. These
prints will be permanently
housed in the Figge Art
Museum and will be available
to travel to schools for
educational programs. Also
there will be refreshments
for the attendees as well as
the playing of music
suppressed by the Third
Reich called The
Music Survives!
b. From 7:00 pm-8:00 pm,
there will be a showing of
the movie Bonhoeffer
by Martin Doblmeier, in the
auditorium.
c. From 8:00 pm-9:00 pm,
there will be a panel
discussion with Martin
Doblmeier, Victoria Barnett
and Dr. Al Goldfarb,
President of Western
Illinois University.
4. On Sunday, November 9,
2008, 2:00 pm-4:00 pm, there
will various workshops held
at the Tri-City Jewish
Center, 2716 30th Street,
Rock Island, Illinois 61201,
on the following subjects:

5. On Tuesday, November 11,
2008, 7:00 pm-8:30 pm, a
book discussion of Martin
Gilbert's
Kristallnacht
will be held at the
Bettendorf Public Library,
as part of the German
American Heritage Center
ongoing book discussion
program. For more
